Brakes on a 2000 Si...

Well. It is that time of year and I am looking to start putting some dough into the Civic. I want to upgrade the brakes, but I'm not totally sure on what to go with. My entire build here is a budget build. I'm not springing for anything super expensive, but I'm trying to keep "some" quality with the brands I go with.

I was thinking about upgrading my Calipers to something better. Possibly to 4 piston calipers. But then I thought about it. Is it going to be worth it? I'm not even sure what the car comes with stock. Aside from having Disc brakes all the way around. Does the 00 Si come with 2 piston calipers? I'm not sure on what to go with as far as upgrades. I've been looking around for upgrades and all I've come across is drilled and slotted rotors.

I've heard good things about Hawk Brake pads. So I'm probably going to run them and see if I like them and decide if they are all the hype.

I'm also looking at upgrading my suspension. I want to drop some Skunk2 coil overs on the car and see if I like them. That isn't the ideal suspension choice. But I can get a good deal and I need to get rid of the factory suspension.

Just drop me some of your thoughts and let me know what you guys think. I'm just looking for some opinions to see if maybe I should go with something different.

Re: Brakes on a 2000 Si...

for brakes on that car I would do EBC green or red stuff pads with Stoptech drilled/slotted rotors, then add some steel braided lines. The car will stop SOOOOOOOOO much faster! LOL!

Re: Brakes on a 2000 Si...

I'll chime in here....

Civics are all 1 piston. They never came with 2 piston calipers ever.(at least not stock/OEM)

As far as brakes I agree with Ruebenn.EBC has a quality product.I personally run Hawk HPS pads on my crx. They are semi metallic so the ocassional squeak is normal, but they stop VERY well!
I would run Brembo blanks.....the slotted and drilled rotors IMO are not necessary for the street and you cannot resurface them on a conventional lathe.I'd opt for the vented/standard Brembo blanks.

As for suspension meh...(disclaimer):I run Skunk2 parts on my own car and have installed S2 suspension on others cars.....
They LOOK nice, but the ride was ROUGH!.....
I guess what I'm saying is don't limit yourself to one brand....I'd look up K sport,Omni power, and ...yes I dare say it Tokico(I have run the Illuminas and LOVE em!)..just stay away from the Tokico blues...blech.

Re: Brakes on a 2000 Si...

I like anything Brembo. But $250 on a set of rotors is a little steep right now. I'm still in the first upgrade stage of the car. I'll see how things go and if I decide that I want to dump that much money into the car I can always put more there later and resell the first upgrades.

But about the EBC brake pads I will definitely look into them. And I want to look at Hawk pads as well. I've heard good things about both. And they both seem very similar with just a different name. I guess it will be a matter of preference and what one I can find a better deal on.

Thanks for all the input guys. :D Much appreciation.

brembo blanks
This is too much? ....pretty much what you would pay for a normal set of aftermarket rotors if you ask me.

The One thing I will add for the break upgrade is..............
Don't even spring for a break upgrade unless you have good tires. A brake upgrade wont do shite if your tires aren't good enough to stick to the pavement.

Re: Brakes on a 2000 Si...

I ended up getting the K-Sport Control Pro's for the suspension. Sense I sprung for the extra cash on suspension I haven't upgraded brakes yet. But still looking at brembo and EBC.. :D

this
brakes wont do shit unless u are going into extreme conditions where u will brake continuously. Stock brakes with a good blank rotor/pads are more than enough for a stockish honda.

Re: Brakes on a 2000 Si...

Not to beat a dead horse, but you are on the right track with brembo blanks and upgraded pads, go nuts and get stainless lines if you want to brag at meets, either way almost all manufacturers over engineer their braking systems and you don't really need to upgrade unless you plan on serious track duty (haha, I said "dootie")

that being said, good blanks and nice pads on your n/a Honda are going to be plenty good for any kind of daily driving/spirited on-ramp killing/oh snap! I seez taillights ahead...
I don't have a Honda, but I'm still cool.
